A lot of pictures here but not nearly enough to do justice to the
trip that my friend Keith and I went on at the beginning of
August. The idea was to get on the Eklutna Glacier and hike in a
few miles to a mountaineering hut called Pichler's Perch. From
there, a world of possibilities awaited so we kept an open mind.
As usual, I have a topographic map with the routes that I will
keep a running link to. Click HERE for
the topo map. If that doesn't interest you, then click on 'next
picture' to continue on.
The trip began with questionable weather, and the entrance on to the Eklutna Glacier looked a little sketchy. Here I am, just about a hundred yards from the toe of this rapidly receding hunk of blue ice. Those cracks may not look too big from here, but trust me, they are not small.
